Ralph fitch’s expedition: in the 1580s Ralph fitch travelled to india by land and saw the wealth of the Mughal empire. dutch success: in 1599 a dutch fleet returned to the netherlands with hundreds of tons of spices. the east india company: in 1600 a group of merchants set up a company to trade with india- the east india company. the first voyage: in 1602 the east india company set up a factory or trading post on the island of java and brought back spices and other goods
