where was the LoN based and why?
Geneva in switzerland because it had not been involved in the war

- written into all peace treaties at the end of ww1 (so all nations incolved had signed an agreement that recognised the organisation)
- had a vast membership
- economic sanctions and moral condemnation were daunting punsihments for many countries
why was the idea that several countries refused to join the LoN bad? [2 points]
because it:
- undermined it as a ‘global’ organisation
- meant that if the contry faced economic sanctions it could still trade with rich and powerful countries

- no army –> meant it couldn’t force people to obey it
- the structure was very complicated, and it confused people and slowed action
- decisions had to be unanimous, which meant hat decision-making was very slow.

because it had lost of natural resources (like coal and iron ore)

because manchuria had a lot of resources that lots of people wanted/needed
and japan’s economy was based off of selling silk
but they couln’t sell the silk because after the great depression nobody could afford to buy it because it was too pricey.

- the japenese army had killed its prime minsiter in 1932 and the government was controlled by army generals
