arteries of the face
FACIAL ARTERY
- branch of external carotid artery
- winds around lower border of mandible and becomes superficial
- passes lateral to angle of mouth
what are the branches/
- superior and inferior labial arteries
- lateral nasal artery
- angular artery
another artery of the face
SUPERFICIAL TEMPORAL
- terminal ranch of external carotid artery
- emerges between TMJ and auricle
- enters temporal fossa
- divides into frontal and parietal branches
another artery
TRANSVERSE FACIAL
- arises from superficial temporal artery
- crosses face superficial to masseter muscle
- anastomoses with facial artery
what do the branches of the transverse facial artery supply?
- parotid gland
- masseter muscle
- skin of face
sensory innervation of the face occurs via what nerve?
V; trigeminal nerve
how many branches, what are they?
3;
- opthalamic
- maxillary
- mandibular
what are the other sensory nerves?
- greater occipital
- lesser occipital
- great auricular (cervical plexus)
what is the motor nerve of the face?
cranial nerve 7; facial nerve
what muscles does it suply?
muscles derived from second pharyngeal arch (hyoid arch)
what are the branches?
- temporal
- zygomatic
- buccal
- mandibular
- cervical
