What are mesosomes?
extensions/invagination of cell membrane
types of mesosomes
- vesicles
- lamellae
- tubule
difference between PILI and FIMBRIAE?
PILI
1.LONG, tubular, elongated, made of pilin protein
FIMBRIAE
1. SHORT, MORE in number, bristlle like
which is present more in number? pill or fimbraie?
fimbrae
characteristics of pili and fimbrae?
present on surface of bacteria
- non-locomotory
- they are hair-like structure.
in prokar. flagella are the extension of____
in eukar. flagella are the extension of____
cell wall
cell membra
flagella of prok and eukar ? are they same or different
different,
in prok - they are extensions of cell wall
in euk- they are extension of cell memb
what is GRAM STAINING METHOD?
bacteria is stained with crystal-violet(violet / purple / red in color),
- after the bacteria attains the color of dye, it is then alcohol washed,
- if it retains the color (CRYSTAL VIOLET) ; then we classify it as G+ve
- if it looses the color (CRYSTAL VIOLET); then again it is stained with SAFRANIN PINK, and we classify it as G-ve.
gram staining is classified into 2 types name them? and also tell the basis of its classification:
G+ve and G-ve
on the basis of staining procedure and cell envelope composition
