L3: Plane Stress and Strain Flashcards
(15 cards)
How can you idealise a 2D stress if the out-of dimension (say z) is very small
How can you idealise a 2D strain if the out-of dimension (say z) is very small
How can you idealise a 2D strain if the out-of dimension (say z) is very small
What is a Pressure Vessel
A Pressure Vessel is a container designed to hold a gas or liquid at a pressure substantially higher than ambient (outside pressure). Therefore the wall of the vessel is in a state of membrane tensile stress.
How do you find the normal in-plane stresses that act in the wall of the vessel
Can a plane stress be assumed to exist in the wall of a sphere?
How can you find the normal stresses along the principal directions within the wall of the vessel
How can you find the circumferential, or hoop stresses along the principal directions within the wall of the vessel
Can a state of plane stress be assumed to exist in the plane of the wall of a cylinder (and how can the two principal stresses be calculated)
Why does the Mass Concrete Retaining wall stay static (can be analysed by plane strain conditions
