Charismatic Authority
It is based on laws and regulations. It depends on government-enacted laws, constitutions, and policies.
Legal-rational Authority
It is based on cultural and traditional customs. Power is passed down through long-standing customs, beliefs, and traditions. It is often hereditary.

Two categories of the Powers of the Government
Inherent and National Powers
These powers are accorded to the government by the constitution. They cannot be taken away as long as the state exists.
Inherent Power
It enables the government to obtain private property for public use. It is often used for infrastructure and restructuring programs.
Eminent Domain
It is the government’s ability to use the police to maintain peace and order.
Police Power
It is the government’s ability to impose taxes on its constituents. This provides revenue for future projects.
Taxation
It is the country’s ability to achieve its goals over other states or its own state.
National Power
The government’s ability to use military forces to protect its people, territory, and interests. It can be used to invade other states.
Military Power
This allows the government to change how others perceive it. This includes controlling information to shape public perception.
Psychological Power
It enables the government to use its resources and influence how other states use their resources. These resources include wealth and labor.
Economic power
It is a state’s ability to use its image or reputation to influence others. It uses diplomacy and cultural influence rather than coercion.
