Lab Equipment Flashcards
(29 cards)
Florence Flask
Used for mixing chemicals. Narrow neck prevents splash exposure.
Weighing Boat
Used to weigh solids that will be transferred to another vessel.
Crucible Tongs
For handling hot crucibles; also used to pick up other hot objects. NOT for beakers.
Water Through
Used in collecting gases.
Test Tube Rack(s)
For holding and organizing test tubes on the laboratory counter.
Forceps
Used to pick up small objects.
Stir Rod
Manually stir solutions, and can be used to transfer a single drop of solution.
Utility Clamp
Used to secure test tubes, distillation columns, and burets to the ringstand.
Funnel
Used to aid in transfer of liquid from one vessel to another.
Bunsen Burner
For heating of nonvolatile liquids and solids.
Evaporating Dish
Used for heating of stable compounds and elements.
Crucible
Used for heating certain solids, particularly metals, to very high temp.
Wire Gauze
Sits on the iron ring to provide a place to stand a beaker.
Pipet
Measures and delivers exact volumes of liquid.
Erlenmeyer Flask
Holds solids and liquids that may release gases during a reaction or that are likely to splatter if stirred or heated.
Dropper
Used to transfer a small volume of liquid.
Test Tube Holder
Useful for holding a test tube which is too hot to handle.
Ring Stand
Safe and convenient way to perform reactions that require heating using a Bunsen Burner.
Wash Bottle
Delivers a wash solution to a specific area.
Graduated Cylinder
Used to measure volumes of liquids.
Iron Ring(s)
Connect to a ring stand and provide a stable, elevated platform for reaction.
Spatula(s)
Used to dispense solid chemicals from their container.
Test Tube
Used to hold, mix, and heat solutions.
Test Tube Brushes
Used to clean test tubes and graduated cylinders.
