Lab - Exercise 4 Flashcards
(31 cards)
Simple cuboidal epithelium
Single layer. Cubed shaped. (Lining of eccrine sweat glands)
Stratified squamous epithelium
Lots of layers. Random shapes. Die and become keritanized. (epidermis)
Adipose tissue
Fat. Lipid soluable. Insulation, energy storage and lubrication for joints. (subcutaneous or hypodremis)
Dense fibrous connective tissue
Regular = not as compacted. Irregular = compacted.
glagenous fibers. (dermis)
Loose (areolar) connective tissue
Glagenous and elastic. (below epithelial binded to dermis) (binds stratified squamous to dermis)
Smooth muscle
Involuntary movements. Doesn’t have striations.
The outermost layer of epidermis consisting of keratinized cells
Stratum corneum
This layer of skin is comprised primarily of irregular dense fibrous tissue
Dermis
Technically not a layer of the skin, this is the region beneath dermis consisting of loose fibrous connective tissue and adipose tissue
Hypodermis or subcutaneous layer
The layer of the epidermis characterized by cells with shriveled nuclei is this layer.
Stratum Granulosum
These are a secretory accessory structure involved in body temperature regulation
Eccrine glands
The actively reproducing layer of epidermal cells adjacent to basement membrane is this layer
Stratum basale
This layer is the outermost layer of skin and is comprised entirely of stratified squamous epithelium
Epidermis
The accessory structure that changes the position of hair in response to emotions or temperature is this layer
Arrector Pilli
Hairs develop at the base of a tube like depression called this, extending from epidermis down into dermis
Follicle
Accessory structures associated with hair follicles that secrete oils are this.
Sebaceous glands
The layer of epidermal cells characterized by large oval nuclei is this layer.
Stratum spinosum
Accessory structures active in response to various emotions are this. These are commonly found in the axillary region
Apocrine glands
The layer of epidermis in which cells appear clear and the cell organelles are no longer visible is this layer
Stratum lucidum
Microscopic passageways through which processes from osteocytes extended are called this. These passageways allow osteocytes to communicate with each other via specialized gap junctions
Canaliculi
The plates of bony tissue in cancellous bone tissue are called this. Red bone marrow fills the spaces between these plates.
Trabeculae
Bone tissue is laid down in concentric rings of tissue called this.
Lamellae
All of the rings of tissue surrounding one central canal constitute one of these.
Osteonic system
A layer of dense connective tissue called this covers the surface of bones such as the radius or tibia. This tissue is continuous which the tissue that makes up ligaments
Periosteum
