ABGs (arterial blood gases)
pH
PaCO2
PaO2
HCO3
pH: 7.35–7.45
PaCO2: 35–45 mm Hg (like the pH)
PaO2: 80-100mm Hg
HCO3: 22–26 mEq/L
Red Blood Cells (RBCs)
male: 4.7–6.1 millium/uL
females: 4.2–5.4 million/uL
Hemoglobin (HGB)
males: 14-18 g/dl
females: 12-16 d/dl
Hematocrit (HCT)
males: 42%–52%
females: 37%–47%
WBCs
5,000–10,000 mm3
ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate)
less than 20mm/hr is normal
Blood lipid levels
Total serum cholesterol
LDL
HDL
Triglyerides
Total: less than 200mg/dl is desirable (if pt. has increased risk, less than 150)
LDL (lethal): less than 130 mg/dl
HDL (healthy): males greater than 45 mg/dl
females greater than 55mg/dl
triglycerides: less than 150 mg/dL; males 40–160;
females 35–135
Anticoagulant Therapy coag times
PT
aPTT
PTT
INR
PT: 11-12.5 seconds. Therapeutic range with therapy is 1.5–2x normal. critical value is greater than 20 seconds
(Pysical Therapy requires 11-12.5 reps and 1.5-2 sets. I can never do 20 reps though)
aPTT: 30–40 seconds. Critical value is greater than 70 seconds. 1.5-2x the normal is the therapeutic range on heparin. (A PresenTaTion on heparin should have 30-40 slides, but never 70; our goal is 1.5-2 presentations a day)
PTT: 60–70 seconds. Therapeutic range with therapy is 1.5–2x the normal. Critical is greater than 100
(my Personal Track Trainer charges 60-70 dollars, for 1.5-2 hours a week, but he never charges more than a 100. )
INR: 0.8–1.1. Therapeutic range with therapy is 2–3. Critical value is greater than 5
WAR from 2008–2011, was good for absolutely nothing, I know right?. 2-3 people survived, but not 5.
platelets
150,000–400,000/mm3
critical value is less than 20,000 or greater than 1 million/mm3
Liver function tests:
albumin
ammonia
total bilirubin
total protein
albumin: 3.5–5 g/dl
ammonia: 10–80 mcg/dl
total bilirubin: 0.1–1.0 mg/dl
total protein: 6–8g/dl
AABP–the liver is behind your abs (AABPs)
Urinalysis:
urine specific gravity urine protein glucose ketones pH WBC
urine specific gravity: 1.005--1.030 protein: 0--8 mg/dl glucose: less than 0.5 g/day ketones: none pH: 4.6--8 WBC: males 0--3 per high-power field; females 0-5 per high-power field
Renal function:
serum creatinine
BUN
Creatinine clearance
serum creatinine: males 0.6–1.2mg/dl; females 0.5–1.1 mg/dl
BUN: 10–20mg/dl
Creatinine clearance: males 90–139 ml/min; females 80–125 ml/min
Digoxin therapeutic level

10–20 mcg/ml
phenytoin
10–20 mcg/ml
Blood Glucose Levels (BGLs)
fasting: 70–105 ng/ml
Glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c): 4%–6% is the expected reference range. greater than 8% indicates poorly controlled DM
