Lab Values Test 2 Flashcards
(19 cards)
Triglycerides
Less than 150 mg/dL
HDL
40-60 mg/dL
Good cholesterol
You want this number to be higher
LDL
Less than 100 mg/dL
BAD cholesterol
Total cholesterol
Less than 200 mg/dL
Blood pressure
Less than 120 / less than 80
Prehypertension
120-139/ 80-90
Isolated hypertension
Greater than 140/ less than 90
Hypertension
Pt with sustained BP higher than 140 /90
Dx based on elevation readings at least 3x over a period of a week or longer
Starts to damage target organs but you may not see it yet
HTN EMERGENCY
develops over hours to days
BP greater than 220/120
Evidence of acute target organ damage- encephalopathy, ICH/SAH, renal failure, retinopathy
HTN Urgency
Develops over days to weeks
BP severely elevated but no evidence of target organ damage
Can be d/t noncompliance, crack, cocaine, tumor of adrenal medulla etc
RBC
4.1-5.3 million/mm3
Hemoglobin
- 2-17.3 g/dL male
11. 7-15.5 g/dL female
Hematocrit
Make 43-49%
Female 38-44%
WBC
4,500-11,000/mm3
Platelets
150,000-450,000/UL
ESR (erythrocytes sedimentation rare)
Reflects inflammation or infection
Less than 30mm/hr
Bleeding time
3-8 minutes
Thrombocytopenia lab values
Less than 150,000/~L
At less than 20,000 they are at risk for spontaneous bleed
Absolute neutrophil count (ANC)
Determined by multiplying the total WBC count by % of neutrophils
Less than 1,000/~L= neutropenia- at risk for bacterial infection than general pop
500-1,000= moderate risk think about putting them in isolation
Less than 500/~L severe risk for bacterial infection LIFE THREATENING medical emergency
