Landing Gear Flashcards
(35 cards)
How many air ground sensors are there?
- 2 on each landing gear
What computers are the air ground sensors attached to
PSEU
What indication will you receive if there is a problem with the air ground relays?
The PSEU light on the overhead panel will illuminate
When will the red GEAR lights illuminate?
When in disagreement with the gear lever position (in transit)
OR
Landing Gear is NOT down and locked with either thrust lever at IDLE AND AC below 800 ft AGL
When will the gear warning horn activate
- Anytime FLAPS greater than 25
- BOTH engines on and low thrust
- FLAP 0-10: below 800 AGL
- FLAPS 15-25: always
When will the gear warning horn activate during single engine operation?
Same conditions as normal operation except thrust lever position less than 34 degrees
What system powers landing gear retraction?
Hydraulic system A
How are the gears held in place?
Mechanically with uplocks
What protection exists for a broken tire being retracted into the wheel well?
Loose tread will impact a fitting near the opening. That fitting, when broken will release hydraulic pressure causing the gear assembly to free fall back to the down position.
What is the purpose of Hudraulic System B in regards to the landing gear system?
Alternate Source of Hydraulic power for gear retraction.
What would cause Hydraulic system B to activate for gear retraction?
Left engine failure after V1 and before gear retraction.
How does Hydraulic System B take over gear retraction?
A Landing Gear Transfer Unit controls the source of hydraulic pressure by movement of a selector valve
What conditions must exist for Hydraulic System B to raise the landing gear?
- In flight
- No 1 engine N1 drops
- GEAR lever UP
Either MLG is NOT up
How is the gear lowered?
Hydraulic System A pressure releases the up locks.
How is the gear held in the down and locked position
Over center mechanical and hydraulic locks
How is the gear held in the down and locked position
Over center mechanical and hydraulic locks
What is the alternate means of extending the landing gear?
Manual Gear Extension handles in the cockpit
How do the Manual Gear Extension handles operate
When pulled by a pilot, the uplocks release and the gear free falls into the down and locked position.
Once pulled, the gear cannot be retracted.
How is the nosewheel steering normally powered?
Hydraulic System A
When is the nosewheel steering powered by hydraulic system B?
When the switch is placed into alternate mode?
What is the range of motion on the nosewheel tiller?
78 degrees
What is the range of motion on the rudder pedals?
7 degrees
Ground crew says “bypass pin installed”. What does that mean?
They are referring to the lockout pin which is installed during pushback to allow them to rotate the nosewheel without the need to depressurize the hydraulic system. It MUST be removed prior to taxi.
How are the brakes normally powered?
Hydraulic System B
