An idea or feeling which a word invokes for a person in addition to its literal or primary meaning Eg discipline connotes punishment

A words or phrase (such as ‘this’ ‘that’) that pints to the time, place or situation in which the speaker is speaking.

A modifying word that determines the kind of reference a noun has eg ‘a chicken’ ‘the chicken’

A figure of speech in the form of a question that is asked to make a point rather than to elicit an answer.

A sentence consisting of only one clause with a single subject and predicate.
