What is the purpose of this check?

A

CALaw 72: In order to obtain the approval of the MLITT with regard to the required knowledge and skill for PIC

CAReg 163: Knowledge and skill prescribed by the MLITT in Article 72 shall include AIRCRAFT MANEUVERS IN NORMAL AND NON-NORMAL CONDITIONS

Authority and Responsibility of Captain

A
  1. Full and final authority to ensure safety of flight
  2. Shall assume full responsibility for the safety of all persons and cargo on board and safe operation
  3. Captain shall direct and supervise all other crew members on board performing their duty
  4. Captain may delegate a part of his duties to another crew member
  5. Captain shall not leave the flight deck unless the deputy captain takes his seat
  6. A flight crew member qualified for Area / Airport shall take the pilot seat during take off or landing
  7. Captain shall be on the flight deck for take off or landing to the extend possible even if not manipulating.
  8. Captain shall give instructions to his/her proxy about items anticipated in his absence, and receive reports upon return.
  9. Shall assume responsibilities for keeping Journey Log and GD
  10. If 3 or more are flying, 2/3/4 & 8 shall apply to deputy captain during takeover

  1. Check physical and mental fitness of flight crew

  2. Check installation of required documents and tools
  3. Check OFP and concur/approve with Dispatcher
  4. Check and ensure each flight crew member’s duties
  5. Conduct crew briefing
  6. Keep a person using the jump seat well informed of matters requiring special attention
  7. Confirm the hand carry articles to be carried on board the airplane
  8. Confirm the safety instruction to passengers has been given as per OM 7-3

  1. Conduct flight in accordance with rules of the State
  2. Normally manipulate the flight controls in the left seat except for in accordance with 8-12
  3. Direct and supervise all other crew members

  5. Comply with 10-6 regarding vessels in distress
