Laws Flashcards
(9 cards)
Boyle’s Law
For a fixed mass of gas at constant temperature, the pressure is inversely proportional to the volume
Newton’s First Law
An object at constant velocity will remain at constant velocity unless acted upon by an external force
Newton’s Second Law
The net force on an object is equal to the objects rate of change of Momentum, where the force and change in momentum are in the same direction
Newton’s Third Law
When two objects interact, they exert equal and opposite forces on each other
Kepler’s First Law
An orbit of a planet is an ellipse with the sun at one of the two foci
Kepler’s Second Law
A line segment joining a planet and the sun sweeps out equal areas during equal time intervals
Kepler’s Third Law
T² is directly proportional to r³
Wien’s Displacement Law
The peak wavelength emitted by a black body is inversely proportional to its surface temperature
Cosmological Principle
Isotropic (same in all directions)
Homogeneous (universe is the same density everywhere)
Laws of physics apply everywhere
