Prohibits anti-competitive merges, predatory and discrimatory pricing, restricts injunctions against labor and legalized peaceful strikes, boycotts, and picketing. One person can’t be the director of two or more competing corporations.
Clayton Act (1914)
Limits amount of wages that can be garnished or withheld by an employee. Prohibits employee dismissal due to garnishments. (Garnished wages refer to the legal process where a portion of employees earnings are witheld by employer and sent to creditor. Usually for child support, unpaid taxes, or court judgement, etc.)
The Consumer Credit Protection Act (1968)
Prevents contractor from inducing employee to give up his or her wages to employer for benefit of having a job.
Copeland “Anti-Kickback” Act (1934)
Protects works for authors so others can’t print, duplicate, distribute, and sell their work.
Copyright Act (1976)
Requires contractors to pay wage and fringe benefits at least equal to local prevailing wages. *applies to only to mechanics and laborers.
Davis-Bacon Act (1931)
Protects consumers and taxpayers from practices like predatory lending.non binding shareholder votes for executive compensation, golden parachutes, and return of executive eompensation based on inaccurate financial statements.
Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (2010)
Increase retirement plan limits, reduced tax rates to Americans who pay income taxes. Permits catch up contributions to participants age 50+ in certain retirement plans.
Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act (EGTTRA 1986)
Provide rules for access, used, interpretation, disclosure, and privacy protection on electronic communication.
Electronics Communication Privacy Act (ECPA 1986)
Prohibits employees to use a lie detecting tool in an investigation of inappropriate behavior. Exceptions to law enforcements and other “security sensitive” positions.
Employee Polygraph Protection Act (1988)
Givens bow pension plans are managed. Established minimum standards, protects loss in benefits due to job changes, plant closings, bankruptcies, and management.
Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA 1974)
Prohibits employers discriminating on basis of sex. (Equal pay for both sex)
Equal Pay Act (EPA 1963)
Railroad and airline industries. Requires the government accountability office to evaluate the NMB certification procedures and audit NMB operations every 2 years to reduce waste, improve aviation safety and capacity.
FAA Modernization and Reform Act (2012)
Financial privacy of employees and job applicants are enhanced by further requirements in third-party investigations of employee misconduct charges. Information in consumer report cannot be provided to anyone who does not have a purpose specified in the act.
The Fair and Accurate Xredut Transaction Act (FACT 2003)
Requires employers to notify individuals in writing if report may be used in making an employment decision. Employers asking need written authorization from individual before asking credit bureau for credit report. * regulatescollection, dissemination, and use of consumer information.
Fair Credit Reporting Act (1970)
Establish foundation for employee treatmen. Ex. “Time and half” for overtime pay, national minimum wage,maximum 44 hour 7-day work week, prohibits most employment of minors. Enforced by the US department of labors wages and hour division.
Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA 1938)
Prohibits companies from making bribery payments to foreign officials for the purpose of obtaining/keeping business, requires all publicly owned corporations to maintain a system of internal accounting controls.
Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA 1997)
Requires anyone with custody of personal health records to send notification to the individual if their records have been disclosed to an unauthorized person.
Health Informatui. technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH 2009)
Ensures that individuals who have left or lost their jobs cdan obtain health coverage. Also provides privacy for their medical records.
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA 1996)
Foundation of immigration laws. Defines conditions for permanent and temporary employment of aliens.

Requires new employees to prove both their identity and right to work in the country (form I-9)
Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA 1986)
Guidelines in determining reasonable compensation for executives of nonprofit organization.
IRS Intermediate Sanctions (2002)
Prohibits unfair labor practices by unions and outlaws closed shops.
Labor-management Relations Act (LMRA, Taft-Hartley 1947)
