Laws of Motion Flashcards
(7 cards)
What is force ?
A push or pull which produces or tries to produce motion in a body at rest or in motion or changes or tries to change its direction
What are the different types of forces ?
There are four types of forces
- Gravitational force (WEAKEST FORCE) (due to the mass of the body)
- Weak force (b/w elementary particles like electrons and antineutrino)
- Electromagnetic force (due to charge or current)
- Strong force (STRONGEST FORCE) (bind neutron and proton in a nucleus)
Name some electromagnetic forces
Spring force, force of friction, tension, etc. are all electromagnetic forces
What are contact forces ?
Forces which are produced due to contact
ex- friction, normal reaction, etc.
> normal reaction forces are always perpendicular to the surface
What are field forces?
forces that are caused due to any field (electric or magnetic)
What are conservative forces ?
If work done by a force depends initial and final positions of the object and not on the nature of the path followed b/w the initial and final position , then it is called conservative force.
ex- gravitational force, electrostatic force, magnetic force, etc.
> Work done by a conservative force through a round trip is always zero
What are non conservative forces ?
if work done by a force depends upon the path followed through the initial and final position, then it is known as non conservative force.
ex- force of friction, viscous force, air resistance, etc.
