When is the conditional used?

A

Things that would take place in the future (if…)
With reported speech (equivalent of future tense in direct speech)
To mean ‘allegedly’
To give or express advice (‘faire’ in the conditional + ‘mien’ or ‘bien’)
To soften a request or desire
To express disbelief or surprise
