Iliohypogastric n.
T12-L1
Sensory- suprapubic
Motor- transversus abdominis and int. oblique
Cause of injury (CoI) abdominal surgery
Present: burn/tingle in surgical incision site radiating to inguinal and suprapubic regions
Genitofemoral n.
L1-2
Sensory: scrotum/labia majora, med. thigh
Motor: cremaster
CoI: laparascopy
Pres: ant. thight sensation beneath inguinal lig. diminished and no cremasteric reflex
Lateral femoral cutaneous n.
L2-3
Sensory- anterolateral thigh
CoI: tight clothes, preg., obesity
Obdurator n.
L2-4
Sensory: medial thigh
Motor: obdurator externus, adductor longus/brevis, gracilis, pectineus, adductor magnus
CoI- pelvic surgery
Pres: decreased sensation ond weak adduction
Femoral n.
L2-4 Sensory is anterior thigh and medial leg Motor: quadriceps, iliopsoas, sartorius CoI- pelvic fx Pres: diminished thigh flexion and leg extension
Sciatic n.
L4-S3 Sensory: post-thigh Motor: Hamstrings, and adductor magnus CoI: herniated disc Splits into common peroneal and tibial nn
Common peroneal n.
L4-S2
Sensory: dorsum of foot
Motor, biceps femoris, tibialis anterior, foot ext.
CoI: trauma or compression of lateral leg or fx of fibula neck
Pres: PED: peroneal everts and dorsiflexes
So injury is inverted and plantar flexed leading to steppage gate
Tibial n.
L4-S3
Sensory: sole of foot
Motor: triceps surae, plantaris, popliteus, foot flex
CoI: knee trauma, baker cysts, tarsal tunnel
TIP: tibial inverts and plantar flexes so opposite
Sup. gluteal n.
L4-S1
Motor: gluteus medius/minimus, tensor fascia lata
CoI- iatrogenic injury during IM injection
Present:
Trendelenberg sign/gait: lesion is contralateral to side that drops and ipsilateral to the foot being stood on
IM in superolateral quadrant
Inf. gluteal n.
L5-S2
Motor- gluteus maximus
CoI: post. hip dislocation
Pres: difficulty climbing stairs, rising or loss of hip extension
Pudendal n.
S2-S4 Sensory- perineum Motor: ext. urethral and anal sphincters CoI: stretch injury at birth Pres: decreased sensation, incontinence
Hip abductors
Gluteus medius, gluteus minimus
Hip adductors
Adductor magnus, adductor longus, adductor brevis
Hip extensors
Gluteus maximus, semitendinosus, semimembranosus

Hip internal rotators
Gluteus medius, gluteus minimus, tensor fascia lata
Hip external rotators
Ilipsoas, gluteus maximus, piriformis, obdurator
Herniation of L3-4 disc
weakness of knee extension, decrease patellar DTR
Herniation of L4-5 disc
weakness of dorsiflexion, hard to heel walk
Herniation of L5-S1 disc
Weakness of plantar flexion, can’t toe-walk, decreased Achilles DTR
