LE muscles Flashcards
(36 cards)
Pectineus Purposeful Activity
Playing hacky sack, crossing legs
Pectineus Muscle Action
Adducts and slightly flexes hip joint;
assists with lateral rotation
Pectineus Proximal Attachment
Superior ramus of pubis
Pectineus Distal Attachment
Pectineal line of femur, just inferior to lesser trochanter
Pectineus Nerve Innervation
Femoral nerve (L2, L3); may receive a branch from
obturator nerve
Sartorius Purposeful Activity
Sitting on floor, meditation, yoga
Sartorius Muscle Action
Flexes, abducts, and laterally rotates hip joint;
Flexes knee joint (medially rotates leg when knee joint is flexed)
Sartorius Proximal Attachment
Anterior superior iliac spine and superior part of notch inferior to it
Sartorius Distal Attachment
Superior part of medial surface of tibia (as part of pes anserinus
Sartorius Nerve Innervation
Femoral nerve (L2, L3)
Superficial Glute Muscles
- Glute Max, Med, Min
- Tensor Fascia Latae
Glute Maximus Purposeful Activity
Squatting, sit to stand, bed mobility (bridges)
Glute Maximus Muscle Action
Extends hip joint (especially from flexed position) and assists in lateral rotation; fixes hip joint and assists in rising from sitting position
Glute Maximus Proximal Attachment
Ilium posterior to posterior gluteal line; dorsal surface of sacrum and coccyx; sacrotuberous ligament
Glute Maximus Distal Attachmnet
Most fibers end in iliotibial tract, which inserts into lateral condyle of tibia; some fibers insert on gluteal tuberosity.
Glute Maximus Nerve Innervation
Inferior gluteal nerve (L5, S1, S2)
Glute Medius Purposeful Activity
Smooth walking, standing on one leg to
dress/shower
Glute Medius Muscle Action
Abduct and medially rotate hip joint
Posterior fibers externally rotate (clam)
Keeps pelvis level when ipsilateral limb is weight bearing and advance opposite (unsupported) side during its swing phase
Glute Medius Proximal Attachment
External surface of ilium between anterior and posterior
gluteal lines
Glute Medius Distal Attachment
Lateral surface of greater trochanter of femur
Glute Minimus Purposeful Activity
Walk, standing on one leg to dress/shower
Glute Medius Nerve Innervation
Superior Gluteal nerve (L5, S1)
Glute Minimus Muscle Action
Abduct and medially rotate hip joint; keep pelvis level when ipsilateral limb is weight bearing and advance opposite (unsupported) side during its swing phase
Glute Minimus Proximal Attachment
External surface of ilium between anterior and inferior gluteal lines
