What are the functions of a police report?
- Record the actions taken by the officer
- Identify complainants, victims, witnesses, etc.
- Record factual data on evidence, weapons, etc.
- Record any admin action taken by police department
What steps should be taken if you observe an aided individual with a med-alert bracelet
- Check their wallet or purse for the accompanying med-alert card outlining conditions.
- Provide this card to the medics on scene
What crimes can increased patrol activity combat?
Larcenies, robberies, aggravated assaults.
Crimes of the “public square”
Who are hostage negotiators more likely to be successful with a robber than other individuals?
A robbers are in a more rational frame of mind than a prisoner, terrorist, or EDPs. They can be reasoned with.
How can shock be prevented and treated?
Maintain open airway, treat any obvious bleeding, keep person lying down, elevate legs, keep them warm, don’t give food or drink.
What information can be released regarding arrested persons?
If aged 19 or more you can release information as to :
* If they submitted to chemical test (can’t give results)
* Prior criminal history
* Items seized
* Address
DO NOT IDENTIFY POSSIBLE WITNESSES.
What documents obtained during child crimes can help determine age of the victim?
A birth certificate
Possible substitutions include:
* A copy of baptism record
* Entry from family bible
* Physician’s opinion after exam
* Opinion of court and jury
How should you handle a custodial interrogation for a hearing impaired individual?
Have the individual read and initial lines on the Miranda card.
What should you do before releasing a suspect on an appearance ticket?
Positively identify the suspect.
What should you do when searching for a lost child?
Search the home regardless of actions taken by the parents.
Is motive an element of a crime?
No, but it may point to suspects.
What should you do when arriving at the scene of a robbery in progress where the suspect has fled the location?
Ask a witness the manner in which the suspect fled.
What is the proper distance to question an intoxicated person?
4-6 feet.
What should you do when conducting a stolen credit card investigation?
Contact the CV and visit stores where cards were used.
If the same credit card is used at the same time at different locations you can conclude the card has been duplicated and there are multiple suspects.
Who determines the truth of statements found in a document?
The trier of fact (jury, judge).
What do blood drops from a moving person resemble?
Bowling pins.
What type of smoke does a petroleum fire likely produce?
Black smoke.
