Due Process
Fair procedures during investigations and students discipline to ensure students rights are protected
Must meet with student parents and school officials to explain the circumstances leading to suspension and potential expulsion and evidence to support
Equal Access Act
Schools that receive federal funding must provide equal access for extracurricular student clubs
Equity
Idea that personal or social circumstances (gender, ethnic origin, family background) are not obstacles to achieving basic level of skills
ESSA
Every Student succeeds Act
2015 reauthorizes critical protections for disadvantaged students. All students regardless of disabilities are taught to high academic standards to prepare for college or career
FERPA
Gives parents certain rights with respect to their child’s education records. Transfer to student when they turn 18 or beyond high school level. Must notify students and parents every year
