Define Leadership?
The activity of influencing people by providing purpose, direction and motivation to
accomplish the mission and improve the organization.

What are the Characteristics of the Army Profession?

What is stewardship in relationship to the Army Profession?

What is the Army Ethic?
A set of principles, values, beliefs, and laws that guide the
Army profession and create the culture of trust essential to Army professionals.
What are the legal foundations of the Army Ethic?
Constitution of the United States, United States Code, the Uniformed Code of Military
Justice, and other orders and directives.
Influencing is more than passing on orders. How do you persuade people to do what is
necessary?
Through words and personal example, leaders inspire purpose and provide direction and give motivation.
How as a leader do you provide direction?
Providing effective direction requires that leaders communicate
the desired end state for the direction they provide.
What factors affect dynamic leadership?
The Leader, the led, the situation
What is fundamental to understanding one’s abilities?
Self-awareness
What is formal leadership?
Authority granted to individuals by virtue of assignment to positions of
responsibility, according to their rank and experience.
What is informal leadership?
It is not exercised based on rank or position in the organization. It stems from personal
initiative, special knowledge, unique experiences, or technical expertise specific to an
individual or team.
What are the three categories of Army Leaders?
Officers, Noncommissioned officers and DA Civilians
