Learning And Performance Flashcards
What is the link between learning and performance
As learning takes place we usually see gradual improvement in performance
Learning performance curves
The rate of learning can be measured in a variety of ways
Linear relationship curve
The rate of improvement is directly proportional to the number of practice sessions there is constant improvement
Positively accelerated
This shape shows that the individual has performed better in later sessions than earlier ones and the rate of performance is getting faster
Negatively accelerated curve
This shape shows the individual has performed better in earlier sessions than later ones and
Plateau
This occurs when the athlete is trying to do too much and is over tired they could be lacking motivation or reached there potential
Drive reduction
An end of task period when performance may get worse as you’ve succeeded so you’ve lost your drive
What is a solution for lack of motivation
Could get feedback
WhT is a solution for boredom
More variety
What are key points about cognitive phase
Visualisation is more effective
Need to understand what needs to be done
What types of guidance should cognitive learners use
Visual verbal and manual
Associative phase
Performer is starting to detect and correct errors becoming more consistent
Key points for associative phase
A long time in this phase
Lots of practice
Movements are smoothing
Feedback becomes more intrinsic
Autonomous phase
Advanced techniques and can detect and correct own errors
Concentrate on things like tactics
Key points for autonomous phase
Actions are fluent
Performer can concentrate on fine details
Motor programme is now fully developed
