Lec 2: DNA replication and Cell cycle Flashcards
(3 cards)
What is the purpose of the MinD/C complex?
MinD is a protein with ATPase activity that binds to inner membrane of the cell. When MinD is bound, MinC binds to D and is activated. MinC prevents formation of the Z ring when activated.
How is the FtsZ ring coordinated by the MinCDE system?
MinD is a protein with ATPase activity that binds to inner membrane of the cell. When MinD is bound, MinC binds to D and is activated. MinC prevents formation of the Z ring when activated.
MinE is a protein polymer that hydrolyzes MinE-ATP so it releases from the membrane, along with MinC. Now, the Z ring can form at the area again. MinD/C complex oscillates back and forth in the rod. MinE prevents complex formation in the middle but allows it at the ends. This leads to formation of Z ring in the middle.
