Who is the regulatory body for MRT’s?
A
the CMRITO
RHPA - all health professionals that self regulate (specific act for each profession)

What is the RHPA?
A
- RHPA (Regulated Health Professions Act) - creates a framework for regulating healthcare professions in Ontario.
- Works in public interest.

How many controlled acts are there?
A
There are 14 in total but no one can do all 14 (max is 13)

What are some exceptions to the RHPA?
A
- can render first aid in an emergency
- can train under supervision of a professional
- treat a person by spiritual means
- treat a member of your household
- assist a person w/ routine daily living.
- Act does not apply to Aboriginal healers

The MRIT act states which acts MRT’s can perform?
A
- Administering substances by injection or inhalation
- Tracheal suctioning of a tracheostomy
- Administering contrast media, or putting an instrument, hand or finger
- beyond the opening of the urethra
- beyond the labia majora,
- beyond the anal verge, or
- into an artificial opening of the body - Performing a procedure on tissue below the dermis
- Applying a prescribed form of energy (applies only to electromagnetism and sound waves, ionizing radiation is governed by HARP)

the CMRITO is mandatory.

What is the composition of the CMRITO council?
A
7 (mrt) elected members (1 from each specialty)
and 6 appointed members
- can only be a council member up to 3 terms (3 years per term)

A

- Fitness to Practise
