Lecture 1 Flashcards
(15 cards)
Define Kinesiology
Study of motion or human movement
Define Anterior
Infront
Define Inferior
Below
Contralateral
Pertaining or relating to the opposite side
Define Proximal
Nearest the trunk or the point of origin
Define Medial
Closer to midline
What are the three major categories of processes?
Processes found within a joint, tendons ligaments and muscles attach, hole which blood vessels and nerves pass through
What is a condyle? Example?
Rounded knuckle like projection, found within joint, femoral condyle
What is an epicondyle? Example?
Not within the join, outside, projection with muscle and tendon attache outside of the joint, medial epicondyle
What is a foramen? Example?
Opening, foramen magnum, large holes which blood vessels pass through
What are the three amphiarthrodial joint classifications?
Syndesmosis, Synchondrosis, Symphysis
What is an example of each of the three above?
Syndesmosis - distal tibiofibular and coracoclavicular joint
Synchondrosis - costochondral joints of the ribs with the sternum
Symphysis - symphysis pubis and intervertebral discs
What are the most common features in most synovial joints?
Articular capsule with synovial membrane.
Synovial cavity containing synovial fluid.
Hyaline articular cartilage
What are the 6 types of synovial joints?
Ball and socket joint, knuckle joint, pivot joint, saddle joint, hinge joint, gliding joint
What are the 3 types of accessory motion?
Roll, spin, slide/glide
