Lecture 1 Flashcards
Median (mid-saggital) plane
Divides body in left and right halves.
Formed by Cranio-cadaul & anterior posterior axes
Frontal (coronal) Plane
Front and back halves of body
Cranio-caudal & Left-right(transverse) axes
Transverse (cross-section) plane
Top and bottom halves of body
Anterior-posterior & L-R axes
Cranio-caudal (vertical) axis (CC)
Medial and lateral rotation
Anterior-posterior (AP) axis
Abduction & adduction
Left-right (transverse) axis
Flexion and extension
Flexion & extension
Median (saggital) plane around LR/transverse axis
Abduction & adduction
Frontal (sagittal) plane around AP axis
Lateral and medial rotation
Transverse plane, cranio-caudal axis
Where is thick skin found?
Only on the palms & soles of feet
No hair follicles
0.4-0.6 mm thick
Where is thin skin found?
Where is the most thin skin?
Everywhere else (not palms or soles of feet)
Thinnest thin skin = eyelids
Thickest think skin = back
Describe the dermis and its 2 layers
Deepest region - vascularized
2 Layers = Papillary (loose CT) & Reticular layer (dense irregular CT)
Describe epidermis
Avascular, innervated, 4-5 layers
- Stratum corneum (cells are dead and keratinized)
- lucidum
- granulosum
- spinous
- basale
Superficial fascia
Layer of CT the integument sits on
-loose bundles of collagen, elastic fibers with some adipocytes
Deep fascia
Tightly adheres to muscles, bone, tendons
Several thin layers of collagen
