Lecture 10 Flashcards
(16 cards)
What are the two groups of gluteal muscles
Superficial and deep
What are the superficial muscles of gluteal religion
- Gluteus Maximus
- Gluteus medius Tensor fasciae
- Tensor fasciae latae
What is the origin, insertion and action of the gluteus Maximus
Origin: posterior gluteal line of ilium/ posterior surface of sacrum/ coccyx
Insertion: gluteal tuberosity of femur/ iliotibial tract of fascia latae
Action: hip extension/ lateral rotation of hip/ abduction and adduction of hip
What is the origin, insertion and action of gluteus medius
Origin: external surface of ilium between anterior and posterior gluteal lines
Insertion: lateral surface of greater trochanter of femur
Action: hip abduction/ stabilize pelvis during walking
What is the origin, insertion and action of the tensor fasciae latae
Origin: anterior part of iliac crest
Insertion: iliotibial tract, which inserts on lateral condyle of tibia
Action: hip flexion/ hip abduction/ internal rotation of hip
What are the deep muscles of the gluteal region
- Piriformis
- Obturator internus
- Obturator exturnus
- Gamellus superior
- Gamellus inferior
- Quadratus femoris
- Gluteus minimus
What is the origin, insertion and action of the gluteus minimus
Origin: external surface of ilium between anterior and inferior gluteal lines
Insertion: anterior border of greater trochanter of femur
Action: hip abduction/ internal rotation of hip
What is the origin, insertion and action of the Piriformis
Origin: anterior surface of sacrum
Insertion: superior border of greater trochanter of femur
Action: external rotation of hip/ abduction of flexed hip
What is the origin, insertion and action of the obturator
Origin: internal surface of obturator foramen/ obturator membrane
Insertion: medial surface of greater trochanter of femur
Action: external rotation of hip, abduction of flexed hip
What is the origin, insertion and action of the obturator externus
Origin: enteral surface of obturator foramen/ obturator membrane
Insertion: tronchanteric fossa of femur
Action: external rotation of hip/ stabilizes hip joint
What is the origin, insertion and action of the Gamellus superior
Origin: ischial spine
Insertion: medial surface of greater trochanter
Action: external rotation of hip/ assists obturator internus
What is the origin, insertion and action of the Gamellus inferior
Origin: ischial tuberosity
Insertion: medial surface of greater trochanter
Action: external rotation of the hip/ assists obturator internus
What is the origin, insertion and action of the quadratus femoris
Origin: lateral border of ischial tuberosity
Insertion: quadrate tubercle on intertronchanteric crest of femur
Action: external rotation of hip/ stabilize hip joint
What is sciatica
A herniated disk or spinal stenosis, which affects the lower back and can travel through buttocks and leg
What is Piriformis syndrome
The Piriformis muscle pressing on one area of the sciatic nerve in the buttock
What is trendelenburg sign
Pelvic sinks on the unsupported side when the patient stands on the affected limb
