lecture 15: eukaryotic cells Flashcards
(7 cards)
Chromatophores – what do they do? What is the eukaryotic equivalent?
light-harvesting complexes for photosynthesis
What do granules do?
they are food storage containing polysaccharides, sulfur, or phosphate reserves.
What do sulfur gloules do?
store elemental sulfur to energy metabolism
Why is it important for Gas vacuoles to have bacteria?
they provide buoyancy in aquatic bacteria (move to light or oxygen levels)
What are magnetosomes? What is their function?
Contain magnetic iron compounds, allowing bacteria to align with the Earth’s magnetic field. This helps bacteria move toward low oxygen enviornments.
What are some other inclusion bodies and their use?
Poly-β-hydroxybutyrate (PHA): Stores lipids.
Glycogen: Stores glucose.
Polyphosphates: Stores inorganic phosphate.
What does the mitochondria do?
POWERHOUSE OF THE CELL (producing ATP)
