Lecture 17 Flashcards
(15 cards)
What is the meaning of afferent
Information going into the CNS (sensory)
What is the meaning of efferent
Information coming out of the CNS to the PNS to effectors (motor)
Somatic nervous system meaning
Thing we are aware of and can control
Autonomic nervous system meaning
Things we are unaware of and cant control
Example of soamtic nervous system
Voluntary movement, sensory info we can feel/sense
Example of autonomic nervous system
Involuntry muscle control (organs/smooth muscle) sensory info we are unaware of
Somatic efferent system neurons between brain and effector
Upper and Lower motor neuron
Somatic efferent system process
Cell body of upper motor neuron -> axon synapses with cell body of lower motor neuron-> axon synapses with skeletal muscle fibre
Sympathetic meaning
Acute stress responses
Parasympathetic meaning
Prepares body for restful situations
Sympathetic example
e.g increased heart rate, increased blood
flow to muscles, less blood flow to gut
Parasympathetic example
e.g decreased heart rate, decreased
blood flow to muscles, increased to gut
Location of sympathetic nervous system
Thoracolumbar T1-L2
Location of parasympathetic nervous system
Cranial and sacral region
