Lecture 2: Catalysis and the use of energy by cells Flashcards

1
Q

What bonds do ATP molecules use?
How are they broken?
What is left after breaking it?

A

High energy phosphoanhydride bonds, these are split with hydrolysis.
What is left is an inorganic phosphate and ADP.

Q

How can a carboxyl group be transferred in the formation of oxaloacetate?

A

From the use of an activated carrier such as NADH or NADPH, reducing biotin and adding a carboxyl group. The carboxyl group is then transferred to pyruvate.
