Lecture 2 - Removable Prosthodontics Flashcards

1
Q

What is a Removable Partial Denture

A

A dental prosthesis that replaces some teeth in a partially edentulous arch; the removable partial denture can be readily inserted and removed from the mouth by the patient

Q

Major and minor connectors

A

Connect the parts of the prosthesis from one side to the other. It is the unit of the removable partial denture to which all other parts are directly or indirectly attached

location, shape, and thickness are important to remember

14
Q

Where should a major connector be located

A

free of movable tissue

should not impinge the gingival tissue

avoid bony prominence

relief is provided on areas of interference (such as tori)

relief provided to prevent impingement or irritation during function

Q

what are the other parts of a mandibular major connector

A

sublingual bar
lingual with cingulum bar
cingulum bar

17
Q

Lingual Bar

A

cross section half pear shaped with thickest part at inferior border. 4 mm in height . At least 3mm from the free gingival margin

18
Q

Lingual Plate

A

used when the free gingival margin to the floor of the mouth is less than 7 mm. OR when anterior teeth are mobile with questionable longevity. Superior border placed on the junction of the incisal and middle thirds of the tooth

19
Q

labial bar

A

Same as the Lingual Bar but placed buccally (facially) due to severe inclination of the remaining teeth
