Lecture 3 Flashcards
The periodontal sulcus is measured with a ?
periodontal probe
the bacteria are all “good”, balanced and working together
symbiosis
the bacteria are causing inflammation and other problems and are out of balance.
dysbiosis
when a probing depth is greater than 3mm, but it is due to swelling in the gingiva causing the gingival margin to move up which makes the pocket deeper opposed to an actual pocket (greater than 3mm) which is caused by bone loss which causes the base of the pocket to move apically.
pseudopocket
a group of inflammatory diseases that affect the blood vessels
vasculitis
Extension of the lesion into the alveolar bone and PDL means that the infection has spread past the base of the sulcus (made by the junctional epithelium (JE)) due to the thinning and apical migration of the JE… this is known as what?
advanced lesion
dry mouth and is a side effect of a lot of medications
xerostomia
