Lecture 3. aMPV, IB, ILT, AE, Reovirus Infection, malabsorption syndrome Flashcards

(6 cards)

1
Q

Avian metapneumoviral diseases

A

Turkey: avian (Turkey) Rhinotracheitis (ART/TRT)
Chicken: Swollen head syndrome (SHS)

Secondary bacterial infections (particularly E.coli)

In turkey and chicken breeders, the respiratory phase of the aMPV infection can be subtle and the drop in egg production that follows may be the only observed clinical sign

Q

How infection by aMPV happens?

A
  • direct contact (with the virus shed in the nasal and tracheal discharge)
  • aerogenous way, aerosol inhalation

aMPV are fragile in the environment and are easily inactivated

Q

aMPV. Pathogenesis

A

Virus replicates in the epithelial cells of the upper respiratory tract
- replication cycle is very fast
- replication induces increased mucous production in the airways
- virus leaves the epithelial cells in short time and is shed mixed with the mucous
