Lecture 4 - Imaging Flashcards
(6 cards)
1
Q
what are the 3 types of x-ray?
A
- simple radiography: bone detail
- angiography: blood vessels
- computerized tomography: brain tissue, CSF, blood, and bone detail
2
Q
what is an MRI?
A
magnetic resonance imaging - (more detail than CT) grey/white matter, CSF, major blood vessels
3
Q
what is an fMRI?
A
functional nuclear magnetic resonance imaging - details concentrations of O2 to detect neuronal activity
4
Q
what is a type of radioactive isotope?
A
position emission tomography - displays neurons that use or respond to particular synaptic neurotransmitter
5
Q
what is an ultrasound?
A
high frequency sound waves interact with biological tissue (echogram)
no electromagnetic waves
6
Q
what is an EEG?
A
electroencephalography - scalp electrodes, electrical activity shown
