rescue industry
painting all SWs as victims who need to be saved
sex work as work
- choice to work
- harms of “rescue”; health wise : (HIV/AIDS ;having a condom in your bag is sign of being a SW, leads to ppl not wanting to be safe for fear of being found by “rescuers”)
- economically
- disrupt lives of SWs
NGOs, what they do
- absolve govts from doing the actual work and services, deincentivize
- maintaining socioeconimc Western order
- self interest (perpetutation of their entitity);receive money for amount of victims “saved”, so incentive to rescue ppl who dont want to be rescued
victimization vs agency
- paralels w the sex work antitrafficking debate seen here
- victim conferred on a person
- Application shaped by clalss, nationionalty, and race (focus on the ‘south’; thailand cambodia etc)
