Lecture 5 Flashcards
What does SOAP notes stand for
-subjective
-objective
-analysis
-plan
What is subjective data
-information received from the patient
What can be included in subjective history
-new or ongoing issues/concerns
-compliance with prior interventions and/or education
-report of pain, function, and mitigating factors
What is objective data
-observable information that the clinician gathers during their assessment and treatment session
-based on what can be seen, measured or tested
What could be included in objective data
-HR
-BP
-etc.
-treatments/interventions and education provided may also be included
What is the analysis
-summary statement based on subjective and objective fundings
-contains clinicians interpretation of clients input and data gathered
-may include progression, regression or no change
-may include a summary of the clients reaction
What is the plan
-a concise statement of the overall intervention plan and follow-up proposal for the next session
-may include progression precautions
What are the submax tests we have learned in this course
-1 mile walk test
-beep test
-6 min walk test
-astrand cycle test
-single stage sub max treadmill walking test
Who was the one mile track walk test designed for
-wide age range (18-79 years) of males and females
Advantages of the one mile track walk test
-applicable to a wide range of individuals
-limited equipment needed
-familiar activity
Disadvantages of the one mile track walk test
inability to monitor physiological variables during test
Advantages of the beep test
-multiple stages allows for a wide range of fitness levels to be tested
-limited amount of equipment needed
-more than one participant can be tested at once
-paces individuals with pre-recorded sound signals
Disadvantages of the beep test
-frequent stopping and starting
-pacing
-inability to monitor physiological variables during test
-how do we ensure this is a submaximal test
What is the 6 minute walk test designed for
-assessment of individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and heart failure in older adult populations
What does a score of less than 300 m on the 6 min walk test indicate
-poor short term survival
Advantages of the 6 min walk test
-simple and inexpensive test
-corresponds to functional activity of daily living
-can be used with a wide population with a variety of diagnoses
-standard time rather than a predetermined distance may provide a better test of endurance
-allows participants to set their own pace and stop if necessary
Disadvantages of the 6 min walk test
-requires 2 practice tests
-inability to monitor BP during test
Advantages of the single stage submaximal treadmill walking test
-suitable for people with various diagnoses
-familiar activity
-single stage
Advantages of the astrand cycling test
-set pedal rate and predetermined workload
-short test
Disadvantages of the astrand cycling test
-underestimates vo2 for men
-overestimates vo2 for women
-may be limited by LE discomfort rather than CV status
How to choose the right sub max test
-the goal of the test should be to provide a sufficient level of exercise stress without physiologic or biomechanical strain
Things that need to be considered when determining which test to use
-has the test been validated in this population
-effect of a persons condition on daily function and abilities
-age
-weight
-cognitive status
-mobility, use of orthotics or prosthetics, balance, gait
-current level of pain
-client goals
What is cardiorespiratory fitness
-reflects the integrated ability to transport oxygen from the atmosphere to the mitochondria to perform physical work
Disadvantages of the single stage submaximal treadmill walking test
-based on HR therefore factors that affect HR must be controlled
