Lecture 5 Resting Membrane Potenital Flashcards
Use Ionic Ohm’s Law
(gkEk +gNaENa+gCaECa+gClECl)/(gNa+gK+gCa+gCl)
Explain the role of NaK Pump in relation to the RMP
The NaK is always running the pump and the pump only makes a small direct contribution to the membrane potential
So membrane potential is caused by the diffusion of K+ and Na+ down the conc grad through background channels
Explain the outcome of variation in ion conc. in relation to pathophysiology
Increase ECF K
Hyperkalemic
depolarization
less negative
Explain the outcome of variation in ion conc. in relation to pathophysiology
Increased ECF Na+
Hypernatremia
Depolarization less negative
Explain the outcome of variation in ion conc. in relation to pathophysiology
Decreased ECF K
Hypokalemia
Hyperpolarization
More negative
Explain the outcome of variation in ion conc. in relation to pathophysiology
Decrease Na+
Hyponatermic
Hyperpolarization
more negative
RMP referes to diference that exist across the membrane of a _____ cell at steady state
