Lecture 6 Flashcards

1
Q

why self-adaptation?

A
  • no deterministic step-size control, but evolution of step sizes
  • good step sizes improve individuals, bad ones make them worse: indirect step size selection

Q

what are the necessary conditions for self-adaptation?

A
  • generation of an offspring surplus lambda > mu
  • (mu, lambda) selection to guarantee extinction of misadapted individuals
  • a not too strong selective pressure
  • mu > 1
  • recombination also on strategy parameters

Q

what is the elitist strategy?

A

top-performing individuals are selected to form the elite group and the remaining slots are filled by doing operations on the other individuals. The next generation consists of the elite group and the mutated other individuals
