What is convection?
A
It means to redistribute thermal energy and causes mineral mass to rise from the outer core

Characteristics of continental rock…
A
Low density, older because they’re “recycled” from the lithosphere.

Characteristics of ocean basins…
A
Less dense, younger rock that are formed by mantle plumes that create a new lithosphere

Name the 3 convergent boundary types and describe them:
A
- Ocean-continent = produces volcanic arc on land and trench (where the two plates meet), the denser slab sinks into the asthenosphere
- Ocean-ocean = one oceanic plate must subduct under the other, prices a volcanic arc and trench in the ocean
- Continent - continent = both plates are too light to subduct beneath the other
