Define Ash Conformity Experiment

· Conformity - compliance with standards, rules, laws
• Factors increasing conformity - Distortion of judgement => believes group is correct - Avoid discomfort of disagreement • Factors decreasing conformity - Partner - Write answers => private • Types of conformity 1. Informational = go along coz what they say convinces us they are right Normative = scared of group disapproving of opposition

Define Bystander Effect
A
• Diffusion of responsibility - reduced sense of personal accountability when in groups with no assigned leader
- Causes change in behaviour of some individuals
• Why they didn’t help - Don’t have time - Don’t want to get involved - Afraid to stand out from crowd , wont take action if no one else had - Appearance • Factors influencing bystander effect - Only when other people interact
Leveraging diffusion of responsibility - by displaying leadership, by making it seem personal, target individuals than groups
