Lecture Six Flashcards

1
Q

Q

CN 7 innervates?

A
  1. Salivary glands (chorda tympani)
  2. Nasal Mucosa (Nasal nerve)
  3. Oral Mucusa (lesser and greater palatine)
  4. Lacrimal Gland (greater petrosal)
  5. Taste (sensory, ant. 2/3)
  6. Stapedius muscles in middle ear (motor)

first four are parasympathetic

Q

Parotid gland innervated by what nerve? where does it synpase? if parasympathetic innervated consistency of mucosa? is sympathetic?

A

CN9 glossopharyngeal
synapses in otic ganglion which is in infratemporal fossa (parasymp)
If para= thin water fluid
if symp= thick mucosa

Q

Infection in parotid gland can cause? what percent of salivary tumors are found in parotid gland? Where is pain often felt?

A

Mumps.
80% (removal is risky due to potential damage of CNV11)
Behind the ear/temporomandibular joint due to innervation by CNV3
