Flexor Digitorum Longus
Origin: Posterior tibia
Insertion: Distal phalanges of 2nd-5th digits
Actions: flexes toes, plantar flexes & inverts foot
Extensor Digitorum Longus
Origin: Lateral condyles of the tibia, shaft of fibula
Insertion: medial and distal phalanges of 2nd-5th digits
Action: extends toes, dorsiflexes foot
Adductor Longus
Origin: Pubis
Insertion: linea aspera at middle portion of femur
Action: adducts, flexes, & laterally rotates thigh
Iliopsoas
Iliacus & Psoas major
Origin: Iliac crest, T12, L1-5, sacrum, iliac fossa
Insertion: lesser trochanter of femur
Action: flexes thigh and lumbar vertebrae
Rectus Femoris
Origin: anterior inferior iliac spine, margin of acetabulum
Insertion: tibial tuberosity by patellar tendon
Action: flexes thigh, extends leg
Part of quadriceps
Fibularis Longus
Origin: head & shaft of fibula, lateral condyle of tibia
Insertion: 1st metatarsal, medial cuneiform
Actions: plantar flexes & everts foot
Gluteus Maximus
Origin: sacrum, outer iliac blade, iliac crest, coccyx
Insertion: gluteal tuberosity of the femur iliotibial band of fasciae latae
Action: extends thigh, laterally rotates thigh, braces knee
Adductor Magnus
Origin: Pubis, ischium
Insertion: gluteal tuberosity, linea aspera, adductor tubercle of distal femur
Action: adducts, flexes, extends, & laterally rotates the thigh
Tibialis Anterior
Origin: lateral condyle & proximal tibia
Insertion: 1st metatarsal & medial cuneiform
Action: dorsiflexes & inverts foot
Gastrocnemius
Origin: condyles of femur
Insertion: calcaneous by calcaneal tendon
Action: flexes leg, plantar flexes foot
Tibialis Posterior
Origin: Proximal portion of tibia & fibula
Insertion: 2nd-4th metatarsals, some tarsals
Action: plantar flexes & inverts foot
Biceps Femoris
Origin: ischial tuberosity, linea aspera
Insertion: head of fibula, lateral condyle of tibia
Action: extends leg, flexes thigh
