horse passport regulations 2009

  • to keep track of horses that end up in the human food chain
  • makes it a legal requirement for all horses to be issued with a passport and microchipped
  • it is an offence to own a horse that doesn’t have a passport
  • horses cannot be sold without a passport
  • purpose is so that horses being administered certain medicines are not slaughtered for human consumption (EU + UK)
