Lesson 1 Flashcards
(13 cards)
Weather
- Conditions of temperate, air pressure, cloud cover, etc that occur at a particular place at a particular time
Climate
- The average weather conditions that occur in a region over a long period of time
(usually 30 years)
Biosphere
- Thin layer above Earth that has conditions suitable for supporting life
What is the biosphere made up of?
- Lithosphere
- Hydrosphere
- Atmosphere
Atmosphere
- Rises over 500 above earth
- Made up of different gases to form air
- Composed of all living things on Earth and the environment that supports them
What are the 4 parts of atmosphere from closest to farthest?
- Troposphere (contains 80% atmospheric gases)
- Stratosphere (ozone in layer, no life)
- Mesosphere
- Thermosphere
Lithosphere
- Solid portion of earth that floats upon mantle
- Home to animals plants and humans
- Warmed by sun instead of Earths core
Hydrosphere
- Accounts for all water on earth
- Warmed mainly by sunlight
Inversion
- Reversal of normal temperature patterns seen in the troposphere
Climate Change
- change that occurs in a climate over 30 years
What two types of evidence are there to support climate change?
- Anecdodoal climate change
- Scientific Climate change
Anecdotal Climate Change
- Relies on reports and record made by people on a daily, monthly or yearly basis
Scientific Climate Change
- Relies on evidence that is unbiased and reflects on general situation instead of specific events
