What is a functional business requirement?
Describes how a system should work. This will describe behavioral outcomes when a certain condition is met.
What is a non-functional business requirement?
Description of what a system should do. A non-functional requirement will describe how a system should behave and identify existing limits to its functionality.
What is the purpose of business requirements document?
To set out the business’s requirements to achieve the scope, goals, objectives, and problems identified for change.
What should a business requirement document contain?
title page: containing title, author, version number, and location where the document is stored
contents page: a list of the contents in the document
glossary: to explain any acronyms or business terms
executive summary: a brief summary of the contents of the document
purpose of the document: to explain what the document sets out to achieve
reference numbers: each heading, paragraph, and requirement should have a reference associated with it
log: a log of all of the assumptions, risks, issues, decisions, and dependencies relating to the documentation
document control page: a revision history of all versions distributed and the changes made, the names and roles of the reviewers, and the names and dates of sign-off from the approvers
appendices: for any details that do not fit within the main body of the document
