LESSON 1: Concepts Of Man Flashcards
(37 cards)
4 major attributes of human being (clue: CFTA)
- Capacity to think r conceptualize on the abstract level
- Family formation
- Tendency to seek and maintain a territory
- Ability to use verbal symbols as language, a means of developing and maintaining culture
2 approaches in studying man
Atomistic approach and Holistic approach
Viewing man as an organism only (view cells, tissues, organs – body structures only)
Atomistic approach
Viewing man as an organism with interrelated and interdependent parts functioning to produce a behavior which is acceptable or unacceptable to him or to the society.
Holistic Approach
States that all living organisms are interacting unified whole that are more than the mere sum of his parts. This means that any disturbance affects the whole being.
Holistic theory
It Involves whole person’s being and the overall quality of his or her lifestyle
Holistic health
One of the responsibilities of a nurse is to educate about health
Health education
These are the ways to keep and imrpove health
Health maintenance
These are the ways to promote and improve life and health
Health promotion
It helps the individual go back to their normal state and regain their lost function and independence
Restorative and rehabilitative care
Which part of the brain is the “thought process”
left brain hemisphere
What part of the brain is the “intuitive process”
right brain hemisphere
A set of interacting identifiable parts and component
System
Fundamental components of system
- Matter
- Energy
- Information or communication
In the components of system, what is the body?
Matter
In the components of system, what is chemical or themal?
Energy
In the components of system, what is the nervous system?
Information or communication
Types of system
Closed and open system
Totally isolated from other systems
Closed system
Doesn’t allow any forms of stimuli to enter (input) its system boundaries nor allowing anything to go out from its system boundaries
Closed system
An example of this system is that it only happens inside a test rube during chemical reactions
Closed system
All forms of stimuli (input) can enter inside its system boundaries and allowing anything from within (output) to go out from its system boundaries
Open system
All living systems (human, animals, plants, families, communities) are an ________ system since their survival depends on the constant exchange of energy
Open system
All form of stimuli that can enter the system boundaries
Input
