Lesson 2 Flashcards
(6 cards)
How is active transport used in the cell membrane?
• Requires energy from hydrolysis of ATP so prevented by respiratory inhibitors
• Only charged particles and polar molecules are transported this way
• Uses carrier proteins and moves molecules against conc grad
Name processes involving active transport
Nerve impulse transmission, reabsorption of glucose in kidney, muscle contraction
Summarise bulk transport
Transport of materials in bulk in or out of cell and requires ATP
What is exocytosis?
Secretion of vesicles which contains hormones or digestive enzymes and fuse with cell membranes, releasing contents from cell
What is endocytosis?
Uptake of particles where they are engulfed by cell and trapped in vesicle or vacuole
Describe difference between phagocytosis and pinocytosis
Phagocytosis is the uptake of solids whereas pinocytosis is the uptake of fluids
