- Ten percent of the voters in each state must take an oath of allegiance to the U.S.A.
- Each state government must be fully restored
- Slavery must be illegal
- Each state must have a plan for education of freed slaves
How did Lincoln die?
He was shot in a theater
Was Lincoln’s plan for Reconstruction carried out?
No. After he died his plan died with him. Many people did not want Texas to become a state agian.

When slaves were told that they were free on June 19, 1865
What was the Freedmen’s Bureau?
Offices throughout the South that helped former slaves build new lives. They also started schools

Someone who came to Texas with only the clothes that would fit in a cloth bag. Often they were speculators and swindlers
