What does ねえ mean at the start of a sentence?
Interjection to get someone’s attention or start a conversation
Example: ねえ、ちょっと聞いて!
Translation: Hey, listen to this!
What does あたりまえ mean?
Means “natural,” “obvious,” or “of course”
Example: 時間を守るのはあたりまえです。
Translation: Being on time is obvious/common sense.
What do you say when answering a phone call?
もしもし
What does それにしても express?
Used to shift topics or express surprise
It expresses surprise or disbelief, especially when something exceeds your expectations.
It means: “Even so…,” “Still though…,” or “Wow, even considering that…”
Used when the situation is even more extreme than you thought.
Example:
それにしても、レストランに多い人がいますね。
Translation: Still, there are so many people at the restaurant!

What does そういえば mean?
“Speaking of which” or “now that you mention it”
Example: そういえば、明日は休みだね。
Translation: Speaking of which, tomorrow’s a holiday.
What does ~らしい mean?
Hearsay or “it seems like…”
Example: 雨が降るらしいです。
Translation: I heard it’s going to rain.
How is ~って used in Japanese grammar?
Casual quoting particle, replaces “と” in informal speech
Example: 行くって言ってた。
Translation: He said he’s going.
